AAPI Heritage Month – Indie Developer Spotlight: Visai Games

We’re glad people enjoyed our last AAPI indie dev spotlight on Battlebrew Productions and their upcoming game, Cuisineer! Today we’re here to tell you about another highly anticipated release in the indie scene – Venba – a narrative cooking game developed by Visai Games. Visai Games is based out of Toronto but is being led by the founder and lead designer Abhi, who hails from India.

Abhi started off at a mobile game studio after completing a video game development competition at the end of their time at university. This inspired him to start Visai Games with his friend and artist, Sam Elkana. Sam is Indonesian and brings his vibrant art style to Venba as the Art Director.

Venba – a narrative cooking game developed by Visai Games.

Venba is based on storytelling and cooking, and its story is inspired by Abhi’s personal life experiences. Having immigrated to Canada at a young age, he wanted to tell a story that explored the dynamics between parents and their immigrated children. We love that Visai wants to tell an unheard story of not just second-generation kids, but the parents who give up familiarity and venture into the unknown for the sake of their families.

Venba is based on storytelling and cooking, and Abhi’s life experiences inspire it.

In Venba, Abhi and the team at Visai Games really want players to experience what it is like preparing homemade meals for Indians. You will play as Venba, an Indian mother who immigrates to Canada with her family in the 1980s. Her beloved recipe book, which contained recipes from her family, was damaged during her journey, and throughout the game you’ll help her restore them!

You can add Venba to your wishlist on Steam, which is projected to release this summer. It will also be coming to Nintendo Switch! Follow Venba on Twitter, and TikTok to keep up with game updates.
